I used to say, “One day I will have a cake decorating business!” In 2017, that day came and I’ve loved every moment since.
Meeting a couple and being trusted with their vision and story, then taking those insights to create the perfect show stopper cake for their special occasion is such a privilege.
It’s not just the looks though. A cake must taste just as amazing.
It is so rewarding when clients are delighted with the look of a cake and then later tell me how delicious it tasted.
I love creating luxurious, elegant, romantic cakes that are rich in texture with hand crafted sugar flowers that reflect and complement your wedding style.
My Baking Story
Baking has been a passion from a young age
It all started when my mother gave me “The Dairy Book of Baking” for my 13th birthday, with the expectation I would bake a Victoria sponge every Saturday ready for Sunday afternoon tea. I duly obliged and with practice, my Victoria sponges had the lightest texture and were full of flavour.
I trained as a nurse then, when my children were of school age, then as a Montessori teacher. With three children, I had lots of practice baking and decorating their birthday cakes.
One day a colleague asked me to bake & decorate her daughter’s 21st birthday cake. My immediate reaction was to say “No, I am not good enough!” But, she persuaded me, believing I could create the beautifully, elegant cake she wanted. She was delighted with the result and so was I!
In 2017 The Paradise Cake Company was born but the professional learning was only just starting. I continually strive to improve my skills. In 2019 I enrolled onto a City & Guilds Cake Decorating Level 2 course. I was delighted when I qualified with distinction across all five categories.
Experimenting with cake flavours is something I love, so I was delighted when my carrot cake made it into the national top ten at The Cake Professionals Baker of the Year Competition in 2020.
When I am not in my studio creating delicious cakes…
You can find me in the garden, or walking in the beautiful countryside on our doorstep with our dog Oscar and my husband.
I love spending time with my grown-up children and travelling to lesser know destinations and enjoying the local cuisine and culture. Holidays involving a challenge are the best.
A couple of memorable adventures are, hiking in the Simien mountains, and in 2012 I was accepted to be part of an all-girl crew in a Girlguiding tall ship sailing challenge. I also enjoy quiet, relaxing luxury holidays!
